Recertification

Coaches, don't forget that four-year certification period for a sport begins from the date that your Level II certification application for that sport is processed.

Recertification contains two requirements. The first is that a coach must complete some form of continuing education every four years in order to maintain their Level II sports certifications.

The second requirement is completion of a 10 question take-home test in sports in which the coach currently needs recertification.

The tests can be taken online or downloaded from Forms Central as  PDF versions or MS Word Versions.

We Welcome New Volunteers!

The South Region Stars results is managed and coached by a caring cooperative of volunteers. Without them, we could not exist. Please consider joining us by signing up in one of three areas.

Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to assist in many aspects of practices and competitions. These duties may include scorekeeping, timing, escorting, and staging of athletes. For safety and insurance purposes, all volunteers must have completed an application through Special Olympics of Minnesota. You will need to provide a copy of your identification as a background check will be conducted.

We are often asked if siblings and friends can volunteer. Youth volunteers are between the ages of 14 and 17 years old and involved with Special Olympics athletes on a regular personal basis. Youth Volunteer Applicants must complete the application avoe and have it signed by a parent or guardian, and they must also submit two signed Reference Forms from non-family adults. One of the Reference Forms must be signed by a school official.

Coaches, Level 1 and 2

Special Olympics requires that each team have a specific ratio of coaches to athletes, based on the sport. We would appreciate it if you would take a few more minutes to sign up for coaching.

Each sport season is approximately eight weeks long and athletes typically train for one-two hours per week during the course of each season. We are adding new athletes to the program everyday, and as we continue to grow, we need additional coaches

LEVEL ONE coaches complete the volunteer application described above AND take two short quizzes on line.

LEVEL TWO coaches complete the application, quizzes, and take a two-four training session in a particular sport. Training sessions for basketball and aquatics will be held at Heritage Middle on Saturday, February 5. Click here to register.
